| Sumario: | Accurate perspective - the graphic representation used in architecture - has been subject of much controversy ever since the italian renaissance. Leon Battista Alberti, the first scholar to theorize on the" Brunelleschian invention" in the realm of painting (De Pictura), proscribes this resource in his De Re Aedificatoria, arguing against illusionism in architectural drawing. Throughout the centuries, perspective gained other meanings, yet not much different from its original intention. This text analyzes the reasons behind its historical permanence and finds common ground for opinions in favor of and against its artistic legitimacy. |
