| Summary: | We seek to expose how Steven Spielberg, a popular filmmaker with a filmography filled with historical films, addresses the Cold War in Bridge of Spies (2015) and how the director associates that period with the defense of civil liberties. We selected a few excerpts from the film and sought to indicate the visual forms constructed by the filmmaker for a historical event that lead a lawyer to defend a soviet spy in 1957, with use of plane composition, camera movements, lighting, colors and the character’s appearance. We also relate the film to the moment it was released, a period of hostilities between the United States and Russia. |
