Efeitos da memantina e epigalocatequina-galato (EGCG) em parâmetros indicativos de sindrome de down em camundongos TS65DN, como modelo pré-clínico: revisão sistemática com meta-análise

Background: Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder caused by the total or partial presence of a third copy of chromosome 21, which causes physical and mental alterations. In Ts65Dn mice, the drug epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and memantine showed beneficial effects on behavioral, motor, memory a...

Sumario:Background: Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder caused by the total or partial presence of a third copy of chromosome 21, which causes physical and mental alterations. In Ts65Dn mice, the drug epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and memantine showed beneficial effects on behavioral, motor, memory and molecular parameters, but the results of the studies are conflicting. Objective: The aim of this thesis was to systematically review studies that evaluated the effects of EGCG and memantine in Ts65Dn mice, as an experimental model, aiming to increase the level of evidence on parameters associated with this syndrome. Methodology: Searches were carried out in the following databases: “Medline”, “Embase’, “Pubmed”, “Web of Science”, “ScienceDirect”, “Scielo” e “Google Scholar” and Google Scholar, using the keywords relevant to each of the administered substances. Searches were performed separately for each substance and included in Rayyan (a web and mobile application for systematic reviews) and after detailed screening, studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected, data extracted, randomly divided between control and treatment groups and primary outcomes were meta-analyzed. Results: The results showed some beneficial results from EGCG and memantine. Conclusion: EGCG and memantine demonstrated beneficial effects on behavioral, motor, memory and molecular parameters, however, more primary studies are needed to increase the level of evidence.
