Descrição
Resumo:Among the valuable contributions of the translator and theorist Antoine Berman (1942-1991) to the Translation Studies — judging by the consequences of discussions that have lasted for three decades — is undoubtedly the essay “La retraduction comme espace de la traduction” (1990). The liveliness in the debate triggered by the concepts exposed there is proven by several researchers, in an extensive trajectory. Many publications appeared between the first years after the essay and the second decade of the 21st century, in addition to numerous articles in major journals, entire volumes on the phenomenon of literary retranslation, establishing, at some point, almost invariably, a relationship with Berman’s ideas of that seminal essay. They do not always refer precisely to his conception of ethics; it certainly, however, in many cases it underlies and instigate new theoretical developments.
