Description
Summary:This study reflects on the evolution of emojis, visual signs that initially appear in text messages mediated by electronic devices. For this, academic studies of these elements in fields as diverse as communications, marketing, linguistics, psychology, semiotics, among others, and frequent interdisciplinary approaches were reviewed. This study found that emojis belong to a set of elements that have been used as expressive resources over time, that evolve as they overflow the digital environment in which they emerged, and configure integral parts of contemporary culture. Thus, discussions arise about control and surveillance in the production of emojis that influence communication practices and brand consumption.
