Resumo:This study aimed to identify and describe the social representations of alcoholic beverage for a group of college men. The work is organized in two independent papers. In the first, there is a review of the recent national literature that addresses the drinking behavior of young Brazilians, seeking for the scenery of alcohol consumption among this population, to understand what factors may be associated with consumption and the possible forms of intervention performed with young people in the country. In the second article, we present the study of social representations of alcoholic drink with the participation of 361 men, graduate students of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, seeking to identify and describe the structure of the social representation of alcoholic beverage by checking the central and peripheral elements of this representation; identify and describe if and how, according to the interviewees, the social representations of the drink (alcohol) relate to alcohol consumption reported; examine the possible positive and negative consequences of the consumption of alcoholic beverages, according to the interviewees; and check how building a male sociability can be connected to this consumption.
