| Sumario: | The samurai film is an important genre in Japanese cinema, being present in films of that country throughout the history of Japan’s cinematic art. This article deals with the chanbara film, term by which the samurai film is known in its place of origin. The text addresses the characteristics and the history of this film genre in Japan since its inception in the late nineteenth century to the present day. This study objective is to get a better understanding of the genre and its peculiarities. |
