Resumo:Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology have become more relevant to cases of medico-legal and humanitarian interest, pushed forward greatly due to their crucial role in investigating political violence in the past century. This text reviews these themes and their general framing in Forensic Sciences and in Social Sciences. To achieve this, this work briefly reviews the development of Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology in the world and presents emblematic cases of its application in contexts of political violence, including Brazilian examples. Finally, recent developments in the field are discussed, highlighting how Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology may contribute to the study of diverse forms of political violence.
