Descripción
Sumario:The Amazon state is known for its hydrological basin, the biggest in the world, as well as, for its rich biological diversity. It corresponds to a part of the brazilian Amazon forest where one can find a typical “ribeirinha” way of life, also found in other states. In this article it is emphasized the importance of knowing the life style of a given population in order to develop projects that will meet its real necessities and guarantee the exploitation of its natural resources through proper methods that will preserve the local environment and improve life quality. This work is a result of a country research carried on in July and August / 2005, at Boa Vista do Ramos (AM) city. The people studied in this research were from a native “ribeirinha” region, represented by small communities that are connected to the main towns through bad roads or, in some cases, only by boats. These people earn a living through wood exploitation, fishing, manioc-flour production and the exploitation of forest products other than wood.
