| Sumario: | This work investigates the functional patterns of the connection element “tanto que”, attesting to the emergence of its use as an argumentative operator, a type of textual-discursive connector within the scope of macrosyntax, in the Brazilian Portuguese (PB) synchrony. We identify the articulation strategies of texts, starting from the idea that, for functionalist research, there is a close relationship between the various intra and extralinguistic motivations that forge certain configurations and shape specific modes to say. In this scenario, elements of connection articulate textual portions, assisting the textual construction, predominantly articulating argumentativity and (inter) subjectivity, being recruited by discursive genres/typological sequences that contribute to the author's text project. Thus, in the light of use-centered functional linguistics, this study aims to present the new use of “tanto que” characterizing it as a microconstruction and describing its form and meaning properties. Using a synchronic corpus of PB, composed of the written or writing modality as a speech reproduction of the Corpus do Português site, we perform a quali-quantitative analysis of the data in the first stage of the research. Partial results point out that “tanto que” is an argumentative operator whose strategy is to add a possible proof of the assertion presented in the textual portion that precedes it. Finally, it presents a proposal of activity for working with “tanto que” from the different standards of use in their specific contexts for application in Portuguese language teaching in high school from the “Linguistic Theories and Grammar Teaching” axis. |
