Sumario:Thin-Iayer chromatography and gas Iíquid chromatography were employed for qualitative and quantitative differentiation of essential oils from Tahiti and Sicilian types of lemon. TLC employed 20 x 20 em glass plates which were coated with benzene - ethyl acetate - glacial acetic acid in the proportion 90:10:1. Detection was made through visual examination in an ultraviolet light clramber as well as through a chemical spray, GC used the flame ionization with stationary phase of 5% SP-I000 in Supelcoport for disclosing differences between the two oils. The behaviour of the oils allowed their easy differentiation. The TLC showed differences in the number of spots as well as in the intensity of some spots. GC identified peaks and different areas corresponding to components of the two essential oils.
