Sumario:The study aims to understand the perceptions regarding the mental health of individuals from Rio Grande do Norte, as well as the implications of this understanding on leisure experiences during the pandemic. It is characterized as a qualitative descriptive study, and data collection occurred online. A total of 172 individuals, aged 18 and above and residents of Rio Grande do Norte, participated in the study. The data were inputted and analyzed using the IRaMuTeQ software, subsequently employing the content analysis technique. It was observed that participants' understanding of mental health influenced their choices of physical activities that contributed to and promoted well-being, health, and personal development. It is considered that leisure activities were modified due to sanitary measures during the pandemic period. Furthermore, participants' perception of mental health was affected, and they found leisure as a means of promoting well-being.
