| Resumo: | Studies aspects concerning open access Digital Repositories, especially Institutional Repositories. General objective is to outline recommendations for improving the indexing and semantic retrieval of information in Institutional Repositories based on practices already existing in these environments. Uses bibliographical, documentary, exploratory, descriptive research with a qualitative-quantitative approach as a methodology. To this end, a survey of Brazilian Federal Universities was carried out using data available on the Ministry of Education website, then the existence of Institutional Repositories of these Universities was investigated, based on a search on the Universities' institutional websites, on the IBICT website and in the global OpenDoar directory. Next, the menus and submenus of the identified Institutional Repositories were analyzed and navigated, with a view to retrieving documents such as indexing policy, indexing manuals, controlled vocabularies, search tutorials, among others. Of the 53 (fifty-three) existing and active Institutional Repositories, only nine have guidelines related to indexing registered in the system and one repository presented a summary of indexing policy expressed and registered in its environment. Finally, suggestions for improvements that can be applied/improved in Brazilian Institutional Repositories are presented. |
