Description
Summary:This paper aims at analyzing the book The Diary of Anne Frank, which was published in 1947, in order to evaluate how the writings of the self, such as the intimate diary, autobiographical memoriesand self-fiction allows the representation of the main character, Anne Frank, in her transition among childhood, adolescence and adulthood in the context of the Second World War, not only individually and socially, but also historically . It can be seen that the diary served as a resistance strategy for Anne Frank, in addition to playing an important role in shaping her identity. Furthermore, the diary writing constitutes a historical document, an archive of the memory of the war. In order to do so, the main theoretical framework comes from texts that present an account of the writing of the self and testimony. In this regard, Lejeune’s (year 2008), Foucault’s (2007), Derrida (2001) and Bosi’s (2002) studies are the main theoretical support of this research. As for the women's writing’s cultural perspective, Virginia Woolf’s works will be the references.
