Sumario:During the practice of intense and prolonged exercise, transient depression of the athletes' immunity is widely reported. Some also suffer from gastrointestinal symptoms. Thus, supplementation of probiotics would be interesting to improve these conditions. Through a systematic review, this work aims to evaluate the effectiveness of these supplements. The analyzed studies suggest that there is a great improvement in the inflammation and infections of athletes, but there is still not enough evidence about an improvement in performance and body composition. Therefore, probiotic supplementation is well-suited for high-performance athletes who have deficiencies in their immune system.
