The high antibody level described in association with asymptomatic infected horses suggested that EHV-1 infection can be more frequent than have been reported in Brazil.A ocorrência de anticorpos contra o HVE-1 foi determinada em amostras de soros coletadas de 1.341 eqüinos, provenientes de 30 propriedades localizadas na região noroeste do Estado de São Paulo, pertencentes aos Escritórios de Desenvolvimento Rural (EDRs) de Andradina, Araçatuba e General Salgado. Os soros foram submetidos ao teste de soroneutralização e, do total, 365 (27,2%) apresentaram anticorpos específicos contra o HVE-1. Das propriedades testadas somente uma, situada no Município de Penápolis, não apresentou animais reagentes, embora apenas 6 apresentassem histórico de aborto.
