| Resumo: | Introduction. Paleontology, the Science that studies prehistoric life using fossils, holds great importance in teaching Natural Sciences, as it fosters the understanding of evolutionary and biological processes. However, it is rarely addressed in the early years of Elementary Education, limiting the learning about Earth's past. Integrating this science into the curriculum can spark scientific interest and develop skills such as critical thinking and scientific literacy. Objective. This article reports a teaching experience using Paleontology to develop reading, writing, and scientific thinking in Elementary School students. Methodology. The activity involved 36 students aged 6 to 8 years. They handled fossil replicas, formulated hypotheses about the life of organisms, and recorded their ideas by means of drawings and texts, followed by group discussions. Results. The activity fostered interest in science, enhanced communication skills, and stimulated contextualized scientific literacy. Conclusion. The use of fossils proved effective in integrating Paleontology into cognitive and linguistic development, suggesting the expansion of this approach to other scientific topics. |
