Therefore, an inquiry into the ancient Greek economy will concern not only questions of politics but also equally the analysis of ethics and the study of values in general.Este artigo analisa, a partir de uma investigação sobre a relação entre areté, nobreza e riqueza nos poemas homéricos, qual era o significado essencial da ética aristocrática arcaica. Os aspectos econômicos estavam em íntima conexão com a essência da ética aristocrática. Do mesmo modo, o juízo de riqueza para os antigos gregos era intrínseco aos aspectos éticos. Por essa razão, uma investigação acerca da economia grega antiga não se relacionará apenas com as questões políticas, relacionar-se-á igualmente com a análise ética e com o estudo dos valores em geral.
