Sumario:The objective of this work was to evaluate the plant density effect of plants and row spacing upon grain yield components of two simple com hybrids during two agricultural years. The experiments, a design of randomized blocks with four replications, were placed in an area of latosoil eutrophic Red Nitosol, argyle texture, in Apucarana county, PR, during summer period of 2005/2006 and 2006/2007. The treatments based on combination among two com hybrids KB 234), two row spacing (0.45m and 0.90m), four plant population densities (45,000, 60,000, 75,000 and 90,000 plants ha-1 and two agricultural years (2005/2006 and 2006/2007), which were analyzed according to factorial scheme 2 x 2 x 4, x 2. The data were submitted to simple and joint analysis, and the interaction effects were compared by F test for hybrids and row spacing, and through polynominal regression analysis for population density. Almost all traits evaluated were affected by com hybrids, excepting the average diameter of stem. The row spacing affected very little on phenotypic of traits evaluated, excepting the average leaf area and the average mass of thousand grains. The grain yield of DKB 234 and DKB 214 hybrids row spacing of 0.45 m was tantamount to row spacing of 0.90 m. Using row spacing of 0.45 m is indicated on cropping com hybrids DKB 234 and DKB 214 to replacing the spacing of 0.90 m. The plant population density showed significant effect on all traits evaluated, except for plant height. Both com hybrids had higher grain yield in high plant population densities, ranging from 70.000 to 80.000 plants ha-1, independent of the row spacing used.
