Sumario:doi: 10.5216/ree.v12i3.10555The prehospital care service plays important role in public health, as cardiovascular disease and events related to external causes such as emergency situations are increasing in the general population. The reunion of historical information enables the reader to know how the creation and structuring of prehospital care services happened. The objectives were to describe the historical aspects of the structuring of the prehospital care service, its implementation and evolution in Goiás state. This update seeks to rescue historical data related to prehospital care services in Goiás. In Brazil the training of professionals and the way to assist the victims were based on the American and French models of prehospital care. They are public health policies related to emergency care that are new and need to go further and to be improved. As health professionals we are co-responsible for improving the quality of care.
