| Summary: | The texts that compose this collection are associated with the problematization of three concepts that are the foundation of every social organization: language, culture and identity. These three pillars are not, however, rigid, but susceptible to the changes and influences of other parallel symbolic universes. Identity formation, whether individual or collective, is intrinsically linked to otherness. In other words, my gaze on the other, and the gaze of this on me, is what determines my self-perception and personal construction. In this sense, how can one imagine the Brazilian cultural formation if there were no influences from other countries, such as France? Had Brazil emerged otherwise if such exchanges had never existed? What about France, how can we imagine it without the overseas territories, without exchanges with other cultures? |
