| Sumario: | This article provides a broad overview of the ways of playing Baião, Maracatu and Frevo on the drum set in recordings by Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti between 1965 and 2003. Using musical transcription and descriptive analysis as methodological procedures, this text sheds light on excerpts of performances by relevant Brazilian drummers such as Airto Moreira, João Palma, Robertinho Silva, Zé Eduardo Nazário, Nenê, Alfredo Dias Gomes and Márcio Bahia. Regarding the theoretical framework, the research is based on the work of Franco Fabbri (1980) on musical genre. The text concludes that Baião, Maracatu and Frevo on the drums were significantly present in the discography of Hermeto and Egberto in the period studied, and that the contribution of their drummers was fundamental to the consolidation of the ways of playing these musical genres in the Brazilian jazz. |
