| Summary: | In this article, we analyze the challenges faced by the Maya peoples of Guatemala under contexts of legal pluralism, where the strength of the communal social fabric, their axiological philosophic vision, and their legal practices, have construed spaces of cultural resistance against the multiple violences of a racist and exclusionary State. The article will deal, on the one hand, with the progress and limitations of legal pluralism, and on the other, with the challenges posed by the current context of the COVID19 crisis. The public health emergency has served as an excuse to deepen the strategies of State repression against indigenous peoples who defend their territories, justifying new forms of control and human rights violations.
