Descripción
Sumario:The aim of this study was to investigate the perception of elderly residents in a Long-Term Care Facility for the Elderly in a municipality in the extreme south of Brazil regarding the ‘Painting Workshop’ extension project. This extension activity of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) was qualitative and exploratory project. It was implemented in 2017 and it is justified by the need to expand knowledge in the field of human aging, as well as to evaluate the extension activity implemented by the university, which took place for three years. In this regard, recorded interviews were conducted with the elderly residents participating in the extension project. The workshop has positively contributed to the process of socialization in old age by creating a space for dialogue that combats isolation in the institutional context. Regarding the feelings generated during the extension activity, the elderly associated positive feelings and reported feeling that time passed more quickly during the activity. Based on the results obtained, it was possible to consider the possibility of continuing the extension project as a support tool for public policies aimed at the human aging process.
