| Sumario: | This article explores the rising of infodemiology to fight the spread of cancer disinformation in the age of Surveillance Capitalism. It addresses how this economic order while maximizing the adherence to sensationalist content in digital media amplifies infodemic and stimulates fake information, undermining public trust on health institutions and science. Infodemiology is a key approach to scan the internet to analyze patterns of dissemination of disinformation, identify the origin and outstanding themes and devise science-based strategies. It is advocated that infodemiology offers a novel perspective to deal with the impacts of Surveillance Capitalism and infodemic, helps to avoid the spread of disinformation and support public policies grounded on scientific evidences. |
