Description
Summary:The objective of this work is to present landfill biogas as a potential alternative to the usage of conventional natural gas in the State of São Paulo. This work provides a basic overview of the production of biogas from solid waste as well as the implicit challenges in bringing it to market. The energy, economic and environmental benefits of this often-overlooked resource are also described. This work will take a look at the profile of landfill biogas production in Brazil today as well as briefly examine how regulation interacts with an industry that is in large part brand new. The work also takes a look at several international examples and proposes some sources of funding for new projects. Utilizing economic theory, this essay will try to show how this source of energy could be introduced to the market, even under challenging economic conditions.
