Sumario:Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale – Short Form (BSES – SF) is an instrument which aims to evaluate the personal expectations concerning the breastfeeding woman selfeffectiveness. Therefore, this study had as objectives: to apply BSES-SF in women attended in the immediate postpartum period and to verify the reliability and the validity of BSESSF for the detection of the women’s confidence in the maternal milk and in their potential of exercising breast-feeding. In the Brazilian context, BSES in its two forms (complete and abbreviated) was submitted to the translation process and cultural adaptation for the Portuguese language by Oriá (2008) and thus a methodological study with quantitative approach was developed and carried out in the units of rooming-in care (RC) of a large public maternity, of tertiary reference in the prenatal and neonatal assistance, in Fortaleza. The sample was constituted of 294 postnatal mothers, admitted in the RC.
