| Summary: | The present work aims at accessing the stability of intern quality control samples (IQC), produced with low reactivity limit (weakly reactive), for persistency of anti-HIV antibodies reactivity after long-term storage at -20° C. The analyzed sera – two HIV strongly positive lots (numbers 067 and 075) and two HIV weakly positive lots (IQC061 and IQC067) with standardized dilutions for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay - ELISA (third generation) and Western blot – were derived from a stability study carried out by Castejon et al (2014). In this re-evaluation, after 13 years of storage, different serological assays available in the laboratory were used. The results revealed the anti-HIV antibodies stability maintenance; however the serum lots – IQC061 and IQC067 – were HIV strongly positive in the fourth generation assays and also, there was reactivity variation of some bands in the Western blot. Due to the inclusion of new methodologies on the market, IQC (weakly reactive) that was standardized for a specific test and storage for long-term may not perform its intended purpose. |
