| Sumario: | The aim of the this paper is to evaluate and compare the use of error compensation surfaces generated by deterministic and geostatistical interpolations to increase the vertical accuracy of the DEMs from ASTER GDEM for Rio de Janeiro state, using as an evaluation parameter the guidelines of the Cartographic Accuracy Standard of Digital Cartographic Products (PEC-PCD), established by the Technical Specification Standard for Acquisition of Geospatial Earth Defense Vector Data. The error compensation surfaces have been shown to be efficient in increasing the vertical accuracy of the ASTER GDEM DEM, consisting in a relevant alternative for the altimetric correction of DEMs, especially when the nature and magnitude of the sources of error are not well known. It is also emphasized that the error compensation surface generated by geostatistical interpolation was the one that obtained the best results. |
