| Sumario: | Salmonella spp is responsible for most of the foodborne disease occurred worldwide, and it is often associated with poultry and their products. This study has been conducted to evaluate the contamination of chilled chicken carcasses in retail market, in Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil. From April, 1996 toAugust, 1999, one hundred and two samples were analysed for the presence of Salmonella spp. Sixsamples (5.9%) were positive for Salmonella, and among the isolates, S. Enteritidis strain was the most frequent (66.7%), followed by S. Ouakam (16.7%) and S. Saintpaul (16.7%). Although results showed acontamination rate smaller than that found in other researches, the greatest frequency of isolation for S. Enteritidis showed a behavior that was similar to other recent studies, thus strengthening this serotype trend to become a problem for Public Health in Bauru, SP, Brazil. |
