Resumo:The present article is part of a study that had as one of its objectives to investigate the life stories and formation of teachers, emphasizing the influences and motivations of teachers for teaching in higher education. This is a qualitative research that investigated six professors working in the Pedagogy courses at a public university in Bahia. The semi-structured interview was the instrument of data collection used and, for the treatment of the data, it was used content analysis. The results of the research showed that the life story and formation, the experiences of schooling, family influences, the relationships established with peers, as well as the social context in which teachers are inserted are factors that are part of the temporal dimension of teaching knowledge and have repercussions in the choice and subsequent exercise in higher education.
