Descripción
Sumario:This paper aims to know and to discuss the positioning of the ICT industry in the smartcities scenario in Brazil. It is based on a qualitative research using primary data from asurvey performed with executives from IBM, Cisco, Huawei, Oracle, SAP, Ericsson andMicrosoft; and secondary data from documents websites of then. The results indicatedthese companies converge on the concept of smart cities and on the possibility ofmaterialization of the concept in any type of city; they agreed that investments in state-ofthe-art technologies to the detriment of technologies that are most needed for publicmanagement do not guarantee the existence of the smart city. Finally, they alsoconverged on the need for training of public agents, the need to engage the population, respect and maintenance of the cultural and historical aspects of the city; the appetite forinnovation and the positive aspects that the involvement of academia and private sectorcan bring success to the public sector.
