Sumario:The aim of this article is to present a proposal for the standardization of the procedure for determining a fire safety index for buildings. This index is defined by a set of factors such as water adduction reliability, people trained, fire extinguishers, hydrants, detectors, sprinklers, alarm transmission, fire brigade qualification, fire resistance of structures and facade, fire load, area and height of the building, and mobility of people. This proposal is based on the method for analyzing fire risk devised by Gretener and a model for international standards. While Gretener´s method is based on tables, this paper proposes an analytic method, in which each factor is determined by a formulae. Comparisons to the original procedures are presented.
