| Sumario: | RESUMOPartindo do fato de o fantástico, tão importante no século XIX, não ter perdido sua relevância nos séculos XX e XXI (ROAS, 2014), pretendemos examinar a perspectiva de dois romancistas sobre o assunto em questão, a saber, a do norte-americano Philip Roth (1933-2018) e a do brasileiro Erico Verissimo (1905-1975). Para tanto, leva-se em consideração entrevistas dos autores selecionados (ROTH, 2016b; VERISSIMO, 1974 apud BORDINI, 1995), as quais apresentam aspectos significativos para a compreensão do fenômeno fantástico, seja produzido em território estadunidense, seja em espaço brasileiro. Comum a ambos é a preocupação em tornar transparente a compreensão relativa à operacionalidade do fantástico em textos de ordem literária. Com o intuito de examinar as duas perspectivas, a exposição encontra-se organizada em quatro eixos: a credulidade do leitor, o tratamento dado ao elemento fantástico, a capacidade do autor em dar credibilidade ao insólito, e a operação fantástica em sua totalidade. Consequentemente, o fantástico apresenta meios de qualificar-se como uma das mais interessantes e pertinentes perspectivas que visam representar e problematizar o real sob o ponto de vista da ficção.ABSTRACTBased on the fact that the fantastic, so important in the 19th century, did not lose its relevance in the 20th and 21st centuries (ROAS, 2014), we intend to examine the perspective of two novelists on the subject at hand, namely, the North American Philip Roth (1933-2018) and the Brazilian Erico Verissimo (1905-1975). To this end, interviews with the selected authors (ROTH, 2016b; VERISSIMO, 1974 apud BORDINI, 1995) are taken into account, which present significant aspects for the understanding of the fantastic phenomenon, whether produced in the United States or in Brazilian space. Common to both is the concern to make transparent the understanding regarding the operability of the fantastic in literary texts. In order to examine both perspectives, the exposition is organized in four axes: the reader’s credulity, the treatment given to the fantastic element, the author’s ability to give credibility to the unusual, and the fantastic operation in its entirety. Consequently, the fantastic presents ways to qualify as one of the most interesting and pertinent perspectives which aim to represent and problematize the real from the point of view of fiction. |
