| Sumario: | With the multiplication of homemade audiovisual productions, the exposure of the self was intensified and gained new outlines. I investigate whether Brazilian first-person documentaries endorse the spectacularization of the self or rather promote a threshold experience. As the notion of “unauthorized autobiography” is deployed in the analysis of four Brazilian films, I examine the effect of the self in filmmaking, the different ways of depicting memory, and how the films deal with its own process. Keywords: “unauthorized autobiography”; first-person documentary; threshold experience; memory. |
