Sumario:Based on the analysis of a Caio Fernando Abreu’s letter to his friend and writer Hilda Hilst (sent in 1970) and on the reading of two of his short stories (namely, “O mar mais longe que eu vejo” and “O ovo”), this paper tries to identify the author’s critical position on the authoritarian political scenario found in the late 1960’s and in the early 1970’s, as well as to observe in the stories how the author deals with the formal difficulties of violence representation.
