| Resumo: | The paragraph describes the challenges posed by climate change to the sustainability of our planet, particularly in regions prone to environmental impacts. The intensity and speed of these changes have led to increasingly visible and concerning situations in the sphere of cultural heritage, demanding deeper understanding and more detailed studies to ensure greater safeguarding of archaeological sites, especially in coastal interface areas. Various high-risk zones for transformations in the coming years have been identified based on environmental impact studies from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). Additionally, the Cultural Heritage Endovélico Database, a public institution (PC-IP), contains records of archaeological sites recognized by different projects and research. By analyzing data within 100 meters of the coast and understanding the circumstances surrounding data collection, it was possible to quantify the severity of the future conservation status of these sites and the need for implementation of safeguarding strategies by competent authorities. The CoastLine project, led by the Laboratory of Archaeology and Conservation of Underwater Heritage at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, in collaboration with the Center for Geosciences at the University of Coimbra, the Center for Research in Historical Sciences and CAAPortugal association, has provided valuable insights into these coastal cliff areas. |
