After analyzing and interpreting the collected data, the demographic and socioeconomic variables of the transvestite’s interviewed revealed that 41.6% of the participants had an age between 21 and 25 years of age, in relation to the monthly income, 33.3% earned more than R$3,001 in education, there was a 41.7% increase in high school and 33.3% in elementary school, when questioned about prostitution, 83.4% of the women interviewed thought they would quit prostitution, violence Was verified verbal, with 58.3%. The questions that permeate the use of alcohol and other drugs by transvestites revealed that 91.7% of the participants used or still use some type of drug, with marijuana / cigarette being the highest index with 50%. The qualitative data submitted to the BARDIN Content Analysis (2011), generated 9 categories. We consider that the research presented a vision about the world of transvestites, whose profession is prostitution, collaborating for a more respectful look at the option and the transformations carried out in her body as a transvestite.Pesquisa prospectiva, exploratória, de natureza quanti-qualitativa, que teve por objetivo caracterizar o ser travesti na população de profissionais do sexo em atividade, segundo variáveis demográficas, socioeconômicas e fatores de risco para doenças sexualmente transmissíveis. Amostra composta por 12 travestis que têm como profissão a prostituição. Após a análise e interpretação dos dados coletados, as variáveis demográficas e socioeconômicas das travestis entrevistadas revelaram que 41,6% das participantes têm entre 21 a 25 anos de idade; em relação a renda mensal, 33,3% ganham mais de R$ 3.001; no grau de escolaridade houve variação de 41,7% com ensino médio completo e 33,3% com ensino fundamental completo; quando questionadas sobre a prostituição, 83,4% das entrevistadas pensam em sair da prostituição; a violência mais verificada foi a verbal, com 58,3%. As questões que permeiam o uso de álcool e outras drogas pelas travestis revelou que 91,7% das participantes usaram ou ainda usam algum tipo de droga, sendo maconha/cigarro o maior índice, com 50%. Os dados qualitativos submetidos à Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin (2011), geraram 9 categorias.
