| Resumo: | Newspaper clippings can be found in both institutional and personal archives, offering a double-faced challenge for the professionals who describe and preserve them. In this paper, we share reflections from an ongoing research on the documentary forms resulted from journalistic processes. In this sense, the origins of Diplomatics are reviewed, as well as the current panorama of diplomatic studies, the controversial aspects of newspaper clippings description are discussed, and an effort is done to align different perspectives from Archival Science, Diplomatics, and Media Studies to underpinthe use of the diplomatic method to the study of news.
