description Brazilian culture10 carries with it a historical division between popular culture and that of the elite, perceptible in various artistic expressions, such as music and dance. This dichotomy not only reflects cultural particularities, but also has deep roots in the structural racism and elitism present in Brazilian society. Throughout Brazil's history, this separation has been reinforced by the country's social and economic structure and even exclusionary cultural policies, which favor certain groups over others. While high-class culture and artistic expressions associated with the elite receive greater appreciation and investment, popular expressions, often linked to marginalized groups, face challenges in obtaining recognition and institutional support. This inequality is reflected, for example, in access to funding, presence in official cultural spaces, and academic and media legitimacy.
