Descrição
Resumo:This essay proposes an understanding of mourning from Georges Bataille's reflections on “inner experience”, emphasizing that the relationship between essay and mourning diary permeates the entire Summa atheologica, especially the first parts of Guilty. The assumption is that Bataille's way of writing itself suggests a close relationship between essay, diary, and death. This does not seem distant from what has been carried out by Montaigne, who is generally remembered as the founder of the genre. The reproduction of annotations in the French edition of Bataille's Complete Works (also included in the Brazilian edition) made these links even clearer. Many excerpts deleted from Guilty, for instance, refer to passages about death and mourning for Laure. This essay defends the hypothesis that by revisiting these texts by Bataille with the notes that were suppressed, one paves the way for a more complex understanding not only of mourning but also of the relationship between essay writing and mourning diary.
