| Sumario: | In this article we analyze some themes related to Tacitism as a political and historiographical language available to signify the profound changes experienced by the Portugal and Brazil between 1808 and 1830. Special attention is given to establishing the conditions of production of the first English translation of the Annals of Tacitus, translated by Jose Liberato Freire de Carvalho between 1811 and 1813 and published between 1820 and 1830. |
