Sumario:Objective: To identify care actions in the preparation of children undergoing surgical procedures in the preoperative period. Method: This is a systematic review with a qualitative approach. The search was carried out in the Virtual Health Library in 2021, including the databases: MEDLINE, LILACS and BDENF-Nursing. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 articles were selected. Results and discussion: The articles included were published between 2011 and 2021 and presented various care actions, such as therapeutic play, informative visual materials, location recognition and early team recognition, among others. Fear of the unknown and threat to physical integrity can be a traumatic event in a child's life. Final considerations: Care actions for children undergoing surgical procedures, mentioned above, are extremely important to reduce their anxiety and fear.
