Descripción
Sumario:This article has as objective to study the Sá Mariinha das Três Pontes case. Witch- doctor and clairvoyant, dead in 1959, Sá Mariinha became a devotion phenomenon in Cunha, a town in Vale do Paraiba in the countryside of São Paulo. To study the case, it was important to organize an interpretation of the symbolic relations and of the future of this religiosity inside the socio-cultural context of Cunha. We attempted a reflection on how that population, attached to a popular Catholicism, was able to its symbolic field, making just the necessary concessions for the survival of its culture.
