Descrição
Resumo:This article analyzes the relationships established between the military dictatorship and Brazilian society through an event that gained prominence in the celebrations of the Sesquicentennial of Brazil's Independence: the Olimpíada do Exército, held in Porto Alegre from April 26 to May 7, 1972, organized by the Army Sports Commission. Based on correspondence, promotional materials, and newspaper and magazine clippings from the Central Executive Commission's Sesquicentennial Fund (Arquivo Nacional), it examines the points of contact between the occurrence of the Olimpíada and the political propaganda project in vogue during the Médici Government, thereby constituting a mechanism for reaffirming the social consensus formed around the Dictatorship at that time.
