| Resumo: | The study aims to characterize the violence against the elderly, from complaints and notifications recorded in Dial Human Rights, and Information System for Notifiable Diseases (Sinan) in 2011 and 2012. 2337 complaints (12.7%) and 1886 notifications (5.3%) against the elderly were found. The complaint rate increased 3 times and the notification rate increased 2 times in a year. It was verified that the majority of the victims were women, beaten at home (90%) by known people (90%), with predominance (80%) of typology by neglect/abandonment in both sources. The improvement of surveillance contributes to reveal the violence in all its guises, to effect public policy, and stimulate the reflection/action of society. |
