Descripción
Sumario:The public, compulsory and mass schools emerge on the scene of cities demanding and moving a set of services and goods typically urban. In this article, from an approach of material culture and economic history, the objective is to demonstrate how educational institutions in São Paulo demanded from local commerce the supply of materials necessary for their bureaucratic functioning, but also for the development of classes. Using sources such as note from the school secretary and shopping notes, between 1894 and 1902, it is possible to perceive, on the one hand, cultural symbiosis relations between school and market; on the other, economic and material relations of creation, supply and institutionalization of the public school, as a typically urban phenomenon.
