Descripción
Sumario:This article is the result of a study on the status of samba in Brazilian musical comedies from the 1950s. Based on a corpus of 14 works and 230 musical numbers, the text examines the presence of samba from a quantitative perspective in relation to other genres, analyzes the sound and visual aspects of the musical numbers and asks questions about the absence, in Brazil, of a tradition of samba musicals in some way analogous to Argentine películas tangueras. The analytical path is fed by a dialog with investigations into the nature of cinematographic musicals, chanchadas, samba and Latin American musical cinema.
