Descripción
Sumario:This essay aims to present the main construction of a theoretical model that can be used as a basis for responding to questions about the role of the university in the context of regional development. The essay intends to present a theoretical model of developmental and structural integration of universities in regional economies in light of the economic theorists of the old institutionalism, seeking to demonstrate that the Higher Education Institutions - HEI are forming as sources of subsidies for regional development, from the participation of individuals as agents of change within the context of the triad teaching-research-extension. This will be displayed below the main building elements of this model, followed by two review topics of the theories that support it - regional development and institutional theory. Finally, the concluding remarks present a critical assessment of the theoretical model.
