| Sumario: | The objective of this article is to present an analysis of the social conditions of production and circulation of the text titled Democracy as Universal Value (1979), by Carlos Nelson Coutinho. First, we present some considerations about the author´s path; then, we present the way in which the text positions itself against and in favor of certain agents; finally, we expose some reviews about the proposals defended in the essay. It is argued that the explanation of the production and circulation of this text must go through at least three interconnected factors: the endorsement of a broader group; the contente and character of the text, capable of encompassing different interpretations; and, finally, the relative author's ability to determine which is the most legitimated way to read the text and the brazilian democracy. |
